For tokens with large portions of supply yet to be unlocked (such as tokens with vesting schedules for team members and investors), FDV can be significantly higher than market cap, which is an important consideration for investors as future token releases could create selling pressure.

The ratio between market cap and FDV provides insight into how much of a token's total supply is already in circulation.
